I recently shared a new model for leading teams through times of discontinous change, the Disruption-Fluent Marketing Framework. The framework, outlined in depth in the free whitepaper, introduces the concept of the Four Dimensions of Disruption-Fluency:

Leadership Tension, Operational Agility, Sensing & Learning, and Cultural Readiness. These four dimensions should exist and work as a reinforcing loop inside an organization for it to effectively navigate the world of jarring, ongoing disruption facing most modern marketing leaders and teams.

Interesting read, you might say, but now what? To help marketing leaders get an initial sense of where both they and their teams stand, I created the Disruption-Fluency Self-Assessment: A brief, 10-minute online self-evaluation to help you understand how disruption-fluent your team and leadership approaches are, what are your strongest and weakest dimensions, and what to do with that newfound insight.

Completing the assessment gives you an overall organizational score against the framework, customized scoring and analysis across all four dimensions, and links to content to help you better understand your "critical constraint" and what to do about it.

Is it scientific? No. It's nearly impossible to fully evaluate any leader or organization based on a simple 20 question online survey. But think of it as a quick gut check on where you stand, a high-level initial indicator of where you might need to invest some time and energy to better equip your organization to become truly disruption-fluent.

For those leaders who would like to further explore the framework in the context of their own teams, we also have a team audit available and currently in beta testing. The Disruption-Fluency Team Audit is relatively fast and entirely painless, involving just three components:

  1. Team Survey: A brief online survey for the whole marketing team
  2. 1:1 Follow-On Interviews: 60-90 minutes with the CMO/Functional Lead and 30-45 minutes with each of their direct reports,
  3. Results Debrief & Discussion: Anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours, depending on your preference, covering the results of the Audit, how to interpret what you learned, and ideas for how to take positive next steps towards true disruption-fluency.
  4. Optional 6-month follow-up survey to guage team progress.

This includes a PDF report with:

  • An in-depth scoring of where your entire organization stands on the Disruption-Fluent Marketing rubric, and how to interpret that.
  • What your strongest dimension is, and what your "critical constraint" (weakest dimension) is that may be holding you back.
